Missions

The God of the Bible—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit—is a missionary God. And the story of salvation is a story about God’s mission: from the time he pursued Adam and Eve in the Garden, through his calling of Israel to be a blessing to the nations, to the final welcoming of people “from every tribe and language and people and nation.” To know the story of salvation is to know that mission is not just what God does, its who He is. The Father “so loved the world” that he sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.
If we truly know the heart of our Heavenly Father—who ran to embrace prodigals like me and you—and the heart of our true Elder Brother—who came to seek and to save that which was lost—then we will reflect God’s character by being a missionary people. The dynamic that drives the missionary work of the church is neither imperialism nor guilt; rather, it is simply our grateful response to the Father’s amazing love.
