Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls

MISSION: The Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls is a non-profit educational arts program serving girls ages 8-18 from a range of socio-economic, racial, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds in New York City. The program will offer girls the chance to learn how to play musical instruments, write songs, perform, and participate in team-building activities in a supportive environment that fosters self-esteem, self-confidence, creativity, tolerance, and collaboration.

Needs: WMRC is looking for musicians and non-musicians to volunteer. Camps was camp last year at Ethical Culture on 64th and Central Park West, but this year they’re hoping to locate a site in Brooklyn. For last year’s camp sessionWMRC had about 70 volunteers doing everything from teaching instruments to cleaning the kitchen to being counselors. During the year, they need various kinds of help – moving gear, staffing fundraisers, reaching out to donors, etc.
