ESOL Conversation Group Leader

You can help people practice English-speaking skills by leading small ESOL conversation groups at one of the Brooklyn Public Library local branches. Group leaders are not English class teachers, but simply lead a group of adults in conversation on topics of your choosing.

Volunteers must be 18 years or older, and have a friendly and approachable manner, the ability to get along with a diverse group of people, excellent communication skills, and a strong commitment to helping people learn to speak English.

You must be able to make a commitment of one two-hour shift per week, for at least six months.

Application: Interested volunteers will need to complete an application available at theBPL website, and will then be contacted to attend a “volunteer orientation session” where BPL staff will talk through your options with you.

The BPL needs volunteers for all of the many programs it offers to the public. Please visit the BPL website for more details on other opportunities ways to volunteer with the BPL.
