Angel Tree Ministries

We are signed up to participate in the Prison Fellowship ministry of Angel Tree. This program matches churches with the children of imprisoned mothers and fathers, so that the churches may give gifts to the children on behalf of the absent parent. The hope is that the gift giving will be a blessing to both the absent parent, to the child, and to the church, as we open a door to a new relationship with a member of our community.

If you, or your community group, are interested in helping with this effort, please speak to Laura Galt (347)529-6719 or . We need volunteers to coordinate or assist in each of the following areas:

1) Angel Tree Coordinator: Could be an individual or a community group. This would involve overseeing this year's involvement with Angel Tree ministries--coordinating volunteers and connecting them with the 25 children we have been assigned.

2) Family Contact Team: Volunteers need to contact the families of children who will receive gifts to confirm all contact information, clothing sizes and other gift preferences for the children. This is done primarily by phone, but short letters may need to be sent to families who can’t be reached by telephone for some reason.

3) Purchasing Gifts: Last year, gift purchasing was done primarily through our community groups. Individuals are also welcome to purchase gifts for a child on their own.

4) Party for the Children? Many churches throw a party for the children who are receiving gifts, with games and food, and carol singing. If you, or your community group, are interested in coordinating a party for the children, please speak to Laura Galt about your interest as soon as possible.

5) Gift Delivery Team: Whether or not there is a party, many gifts will need to be delivered to recipient families. If you have a car or are willing to ride along with someone who does, and are willing to be part of a team of people who will coordinate gift delivery, please speak to Laura Galt.
