Matt Brown, Pastor

Brown Family Large Pic

Matts first introduction to Brooklyn came during his college years, when he served on a ministry team that started kid’s clubs and youth groups from Kensington and Sunset Park all the way to Canarsie. He developed a love for the borough and was therefore pleased when, in late 2002, he was called by the Presbytery to start a church in Park Slope. He and his wife, Deb, their two daughters, Flannery Grace and Charlotte Elizabeth, and their Rottweiler, Guinness, moved to the neighborhood in August of 2003. They have since added a son, Walker, to the family.

Reading, fishing, and various sports occupy Matt’s free time, and he enjoys listening to jazz and folk music (Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and Ray LaMontagne occupy his pantheon of current favorites). He loves New York and all things Brooklyn, including a cold Brooklyn Lager. But undying Red Sox fan that he is, Matt will never, ever root for the Yankees. He is glad that their stadium is located all the way up in the Bronx.

His theological influences include: Lesslie Newbigin, N.T. Wright, Harvie Conn and John Calvin.
