The 20/20 Project

Park Slope Presbyterian Church values the expansion of families through the process of adoption. This is one way that we can joyfully celebrate our own adoption as God’s own children. (Romans 8:15) To that end the adoption ministry of Brooklyn Presbyterian Church exists to promote a community culture that values adoption and those engaged at all levels of the process.

Vision:
To encourage the Body of Christ in Brooklyn to understand and act on God’s call to “father the fatherless” Psalms 68:56 and “bring justice to the orphans and oppressed…” Isaiah 1:17
Mission:
By the year 2020...
20% of Brooklyn Presbyterian Church members commit to a child or youth in need of family as mentor, financial provider, foster parent or adoptive family.
20% of the churches in the borough of Brooklyn join together in a partnership to advocate for and serve the needs of youth and children at risk and those awaiting adoption.
Action:
Pray
regularly and frequently for children and youth here and around the world that do not have families to care for them. Pray for the people who are trying to help them… pray at home with family and friends, pray in worship service, pray in your community group, pray when you are alone.
Learn
what Scripture has to say about adoption and the care of orphans… through study, through worship services and through adult and children’s Sunday school.
Share
information about books, websites, films, articles and conferences dealing with the needs of orphaned children and the efforts to address those needs…
Explore
and present opportunities for advocacy and action on behalf of children in need of families and care… through educational events, forums and workshops on topics such as understanding the foster care system in Brooklyn, developments in international orphan care, child development and child advocacy.
Serve
kids in need and the people who are working to help them… by becoming a mentor or an advocate for a child or teen in Brooklyn, by financially supporting a family or child in need here and abroad, by providing training, consultation or respite care for caregivers.
Assist
families in our churches who are considering or already fostering or adopting children… through fellowship with other adoptive families, by helping navigate the foster care or adoption process and by offering material and practical assistance.
Connect
with local, national and international agencies, organizations, missions and ministries… to learn more about what we can do together.
Build
a network of churches throughout the borough of Brooklyn… to share this vision and to work together to advocate for and serve children and youth who might otherwise be left behind.
