New Sunday School Classes
Jan 3, 2011
Because spiritual growth involves the transformation of more than just our minds, for this spring we've worked hard to re-format our Sunday School in such a way that our whole selves are engaged in learning and obeying the Scriptures. We will add components that are directed to our affections, our physicality, as well as our intellect. Please check out one of the following opportunities.
Children's Catechism Classes for All Ages of Children
Join us for Sunday School as we learn the great truths of God’s Word through music, games, art projects, and lots and lots of repetition! From “Who made you?” to “What is prayer?,” children will learn to ask and answer the questions that lead us to an understanding of God’s covenant promises and build a firm foundation for faith in Jesus Christ. Classes appropriate for children 3yrs-6th grade are available!
Marriage (Sacred or Mundane?)
Have you ever asked: What is the purpose of marriage? Why doesn't my spouse understand me? When will my spouse change? How can we improve our communication? After how long do the struggles of marriage subside? Then this class is for you, whether you are recently married, long married or contemplating marriage. The class will be discussion-based, and will focus on, but not be limited to, the book Sacred Marriage by Gary Thomas. Prerequisites for class: (1) desire to better understand, and improve, your marriage; (2) commitment to attend the classes and read the materials; (3) willingness to share in class. Work-Faith Integration and Cultural Renewal
Scripture affirms the goodness of work and commands us to do our work, regardless of the type, heartily for the Lord. This is easier said than done. Rather than being integrated, our faith and work often exist in two different spheres. When they do come into contact, they seem at odds with one another. We are often left wondering what the purpose and value of our work is. In this class, we will examine how our understanding and experience of work is tied to the biblical narrative of redemption. We will also consider the parallel ways in which the gospel renews individuals, communities and the world at large. To be clear, this class is not about vocational discernment, but rather how the gospel informs our understanding of vocation.
The readings will vary weekly and will draw from a variety of Christian thinkers and writers. This class is for people in all vocations: the arts, business, medicine, law, et al. For more information, contact .
